11/01/2023 Standard Operating Procedures for Recreation Volunteers

The City is compiling our Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the recreation department. We already have an established procedure for conducting Livescan background checks on potential recreation volunteers. However, our Recreation Department is interested in learning if other agencies have documented protocols for handling LiveScan results. For instance, do other agencies have established guidelines for assessing volunteers with past drug-related offenses, such as allowing individuals with offenses from 15 years ago to volunteer while excluding those with recent drug-related offenses from consideration?

In addition, do any agencies have an appeals process that applicants can go through if they want to dispute or provide clarifying information for negative LiveScan results?
